Sample problems

  1. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = -4x + 1? 1/4
  2. What is the slope of a line parallel to y = 2x + 6? 2
  3. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = 2x − 3? -1/2
  4. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = 6x + 3? -1/6
  5. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = -6/5x + 3? 5/6
  6. What is the slope of a line parallel to y = 8/4x − 7? 8/4
  7. What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = 1/3x + 1? -3
  8. What is the slope of a line parallel to y = 3/2x + 7? 3/2

These eight are one sample at medium difficulty — the generator makes a different set every time.

A worked example

What is the slope of a line perpendicular to y = -4x + 1? 1/4

  1. Perpendicular slopes are negative reciprocals: flip the fraction and change the sign
  2. The slope is -4; flipped it is 1/4 (dropping the minus), so the answer is 1/4

Every problem on the answer key can show its steps like this — turn on “Show steps” before downloading.

About these worksheets

Every problem is built backwards from its solution, so the answers are whole numbers and the answer key cannot be wrong. Every sheet is generated fresh, so you can print a new one on the same skill as often as you need — different numbers, same difficulty.

Pick how many problems you want and whether they should be easy, medium or hard, then download a PDF with a matching answer key. The key can show the worked steps for every problem, which is what a parent needs to see where a wrong answer went wrong.
